Description
This charming piece is a bit of puzzle. It is marked AK900 on the interior. I asked a few silver dealers if they were familiar with this mark and a got a slew of answers ~ from Continental Europe to the Middle East (including possibly Turkey which I guess is technically both). Since I have not identified the maker, I don't know the exact age, but given its design and overall look, I would estimate it to sometime in the 1st half of the 20th century, perhaps 1930s or so. If anyone knows more about the maker or origin, I would love to hear from you.
It is quite nicely done in the shape of a sack bag with an applied rope style tie with gold gilt finish on the silver. It is .900 silver, just a tad shy of .925 sterling (European silver is usually either .800 or .900 silver).  It is small, measuring about 3" wide and about 2 1/4" tall. It weights 74.3 grams. It is a jewel of a piece ~ for display or use (perhaps on a dressing table for Q-tips or to hold cocktail picks).
CONDITION: Vintage item. Expect some tarnish. Some wear to the gilt finish on the 'rope' as would be expected. I see two tiny dents on the side ribs (not significant). All in all, looks fantastic.
